Where can I find Tax Assessor data?

Many people familiar with property data are familiar with Tax Assessor data, and public record data for properties collected by counties to assist with the assessment of property taxes. Because this data is so well known, we are often asked to explain where all the Tax Assessor Data is within ATTOM Cloud. The data in ATTOM Cloud is cataloged based upon subjects rather than references to traditional sources.

Relevant Tables

AssessedValues

The property tax charged by the county is based upon an assessed value of the land and building. This table keeps track of each time a county chooses to update the valuation of a property. The frequency and process by which valuations are determined vary from county to county. These usually bear little or no relationship to the actual value of the property unless there is a recent sales transaction.

PropertyFeatures

This table holds address details used to identify individual properties. Tax Assessor records usually refer to properties using APNs. We make it easier to match data by also including our own unique ATTOM ID along with the Situs Address as used by USPS and latitude/longitude. The table also includes hundreds of data points about property characteristics collected as part of the tax assessment process. Every county collects different characteristics of a property. Some only collect these characteristics when the property is first assessed. Others may update the data once a year or once every two years.

REOwnership

This table maintains details about the current owner of the property. This is used by the Tax Assessor office to mail out property tax bills, hence counties have a good reason to keep this information updated/

TaxHistory

A record of the amount of property tax assessed against the property each year., including any exemptions

There are some cases in which there is a need to combine all the above data together in a single view. To make this task simple we have constructed a view (found under the Solutions schema) that brings this data together in a format that matches our original Bulk File layouts that were once commonly used to share property data. This view may not be visible to everyone. If not, and you need it, reach out to your friend ATTOM representative to request access to the view.
